1940 BMW R12.jpg

Here is a very good BMW R12 for sale here in the USA through us here at Vintage German Motorcycles. This motorcycle has BMW paperwork which was delivered to the Luftwaffe in Aug of 1940.

Let’s start with the motor block. They are matching case halves and this is a plus among collectors. Most BMW R12's don’t have matching case halves. The rods and crank were rebuilt by Chris chambers. It now has new bearings on the rods and it’s a perfect crank. BoreTech has sleeved the cylinders, replaced the valve guides, repaired broken fins, installed new valve springs, a huge correct job well done.

Wolfgang Reichenberger from Germany rebuilt the magneto in Aug of 2016 and the regulator has been replaced with a new modern electronic one. The generator also has the adjustable sprocket on it which is a huge plus for when the magneto needs to come off for timing. It also has a new magneto seal. Also done to the motor is new timing gears and chains, new clutch plates and cover, new pistons, modern oil filter kit, rebuilt SUM carb with all new jets, float, sleeved body for a new slide. The correct step nuts have been used throughout the motor.

The frame has been sent to Vern at GT Enterprises in Northern CA and now it’s a correctly repaired frame. If you are a frame guy, you know Vern is the best, doing this. All the electric wire work has been replaced on the motorcycle with new cloth wire. The transmission was rebuilt by Todd Rasmussen in OK. He is a well know restorer in the USA and does exceptional work. The brakes have all been relined by Bench Mark Works in Mississippi. The rear drive has been rebuilt by Richard Scheckler with all new modern seals and bearings.

The current gearing in the bike is for a sidecar which is perfect for the Steib on it. The motorcycle gas tank retains the original (rebuilt) petcock. The tank has also has been relined. It has a new exhaust system on the motorcycle.

For brake lights a LED conversion has been installed in the rear tail light which is a huge plus. This is hidden inside of the old tail light. Also for the front light is a new halogen bulb. Another detail is a dead on accurate BOSCH battery box avail ONLY from Vintage German Motorcycles. This is a very nice touch and really shows well. The horn is the original BOSCH horn which still works. On the motorcycle frame is the Original knee pads, He’s replaced the control cables, rebuilt speedo (odometer quit working), new fork tubes, new fork seals and bushings.

The sidecar is a Steib LS200 from the 1950's. So many things have been addressed, please contact us for more details. This is a running, rideable bike, with comfort in knowing its reliable and ready for the road.
